The harbour
Busan, South Korea's second city and largest port, sits on the southeastern tip of the Korean Peninsula facing the Korea Strait and Japan.
It is one of the world's major container ports and a key transshipment hub for Northeast Asia, with newer terminals west of the old harbour. Ferries run to Fukuoka, Shimonoseki and Osaka. During the Korean War the city lay inside the Pusan Perimeter and served as the temporary capital.
A sailor notices the steep, built-up hills around the harbour, the long suspension bridges, and the bustle of Jagalchi, the famous seaside fish market.
