The harbour

Cebu City lies on the east coast of Cebu Island in the central Philippines, facing the narrow Mactan Channel and the island of Mactan, linked by bridges.

It is the country's main hub for inter-island shipping, with a dense network of ferries, fast craft and small cargo ships linking the Visayas and Mindanao. It is also one of the oldest Spanish settlements in the Philippines: Magellan arrived in 1521 and was killed on Mactan, and Magellan's Cross is still kept in the city.

A sailor in the channel shares the water with a constant stream of passenger vessels and outrigger boats.
