The harbour
Davao City lies on the Davao Gulf on the southeastern coast of Mindanao, the large southern island of the Philippines. It is the main city of Mindanao and one of the largest in the country by area.
Its ports, including Sasa and nearby terminals around the gulf, handle containers, general cargo and especially exports of bananas, pineapples and other fruit grown on the surrounding plantations. Ferries link the city with Samal Island just across the water. Sailors notice the calm, sheltered waters of the gulf and Mount Apo, the highest mountain in the Philippines, rising inland.
