The harbour
Hamilton is the capital of Bermuda, a British Overseas Territory in the western North Atlantic. Its harbour lies on an inner inlet off the Great Sound, well protected from the open ocean.
Cruise ships and cargo vessels berth along Front Street, right beside the town's pastel-coloured buildings, though the largest cruise ships use the old Royal Naval Dockyard at the island's western end. Bermuda's economy rests on international business, insurance and tourism.
The islands are surrounded by extensive coral reefs, so a sailor must use the marked channels and keep a sharp eye on the water colour when approaching.
