Keelung

The harbour
Keelung sits at the northern tip of Taiwan, in a deep, sheltered bay facing the East China Sea. It is the main seaport for Taipei and one of Taiwan's principal harbours, handling containers, general cargo, ferries and many cruise ships.
The port was fought over by foreign powers in the nineteenth century and was developed into a modern harbour during the Japanese colonial period. The city is famous for its night market near the Miaokou temple and for its seafood. Sailors quickly learn why it is nicknamed the Rain Port: it has some of the wettest weather in Taiwan, especially in winter.
