The harbour
Mundra lies on the northern shore of the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat, western India, facing the Arabian Sea.
Developed since the late 1990s by the Adani Group, it has grown into India's largest commercial port, handling containers, coal, crude oil, fertiliser and other bulk cargo, with an industrial and economic zone and a large power station beside it. Its location gives it good rail and road links to northern India.
The surrounding land is flat, dry and almost desert-like. In the Gulf of Kutch a sailor must reckon with strong tidal currents and a large tidal range.
