Prince Rupert

The harbour
Prince Rupert lies on Kaien Island on the north coast of British Columbia, facing Chatham Sound. It was founded as the Pacific terminus of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, and its deep natural harbour is closer to Asia by sea than any other major North American port.
Containers move straight from ships onto trains bound for central Canada and the US Midwest, and the port also exports coal, grain, wood pellets and propane. Ferries link it with Haida Gwaii and Alaska.
Sailors quickly discover that Prince Rupert is one of the wettest cities in Canada, often wrapped in rain, mist and low cloud.
