The harbour
Rhodes town lies at the northern tip of the island of Rhodes, the largest of the Dodecanese, in the southeastern Aegean close to the Turkish coast. In antiquity the Colossus of Rhodes stood near its harbour, and the walled medieval town built by the Knights of St John is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The main port handles ferries to Piraeus and other islands, boats to Türkiye and many cruise ships, while the small Mandraki harbour is used by yachts and excursion boats. Sailors entering Mandraki pass between two columns topped with bronze deer statues, which mark the entrance.
