The harbour
Valencia lies on the Gulf of Valencia on Spain's Mediterranean coast. Its port is one of the busiest container ports in the Mediterranean, serving as a gateway for Madrid and central Spain as well as for the region's farms and factories.
Ferries sail to the Balearic Islands, and the city hosted the America's Cup sailing races in 2007 and 2010. The region is famous for its oranges and for paella.
Sailors approaching see a flat coast with the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences, and the Albufera lagoon, with its rice fields, just to the south.
